This is a music video I did for Boxcutter . I used a 8 tracks mixdown of this brilliant song “Chiral”, and got each track’s volume and frequencies values logged into txt files through a processing bit of code.

As far as this step was complete, I had raw data talking about my audio, ready to use as a reference. I then wrote some expressions inside cinema4d to generate 3d sculptures made out of this data. I then coded another set of expressions to have beat detection values assigned to chaotic moves + displacement and explosion to selected frequencies peaks. Adjusting values took a lot of time…

I now had to wait for my g5 and macbook pro to have the 8 full HD renders complete. I then took it right into shake to get the best color adjustement and motion estimation engine around. Finally the video you can see below is heavily compressed - to be read in streaming without having you to wait too long - but it gives you a preview of the process. The only remorse I have now watching it over and over is the lack of a fixed point of view mark. I really wanted to confuse people into space and volumes, but it could have been achieved a more effective way using just a small POV… I guess I’ll have to render it again ^_^’
